What Is Theobromine?

The compound behind cacao’s character — what it is and where it comes from.

Theobromine is a compound that occurs naturally in cacao. It is what gives high-cacao chocolate its bitter depth and energising character.

Naturally present in cacao

The higher the cacao content, the more present theobromine tends to be. At 96% cacao, AztecBlood is built around cacao intensity rather than sweetness.

In AztecBlood, theobromine is not an additive — it comes from the cacao itself, alongside a small amount of naturally occurring caffeine, chili, and spices.
